Highlights from the 2013 Armory Show

Another year, another Armory Show. Overall a good year for painting! However, the fair was a little weird this time around with a clear shortage of "Blue Chip" galleries (You'll find them at Frieze later in the year), but maybe that's a good thing. More room for everyone else...Below are some highlights (in my humble opinion) from the fair. Tomorrow I'll be posting pictures from VOLTA. Enjoy! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Iona Rozeal Brown in the New York Times

We've been keeping an eye on Iona Rozeal Brown since she made an appearance in our 2002 MFA Annual. On Friday she was featured in the Art and Design section of the New York Times. After the jump, read the entire article. Congrats Iona!

Must See Painting Shows: February

It is, once again, a very strong month for New American Paintings’ alumni with close to thirty solo exhibitions on view around the country. Some of these artists are now well established, such as Amy Cutler, others are early in their careers, such as Ellen Lesperance, who is currently exhibiting her intricate works on paper and objects at Ambach & Rice in Los Angeles.

Art For Sandy Relief: A Closer Look at The Artist Relief Project

Like most New Yorkers, it was hard to look beyond our own basic necessities in the days leading up to Hurricane Sandy. Bottled water, flashlights, canned food. But as the winds died down and the storm’s damage was made known, the extent of its devastation proved bewildering. The homes, neighborhoods, and businesses in New York and New Jersey that took the worst of hits were highly visible news stories. But in the days and weeks following the storm there was another community whose irreparable damages came to light: those of the arts community. - Nadiah Fellah, NYC Contributor

Miami Highlights: Rubell, de la Cruz, Margulies

I hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the Miami fairs this past week. It was a blast documenting the events and I like sharing the experience with our readers. Today will be the last day we mention Miami for a while (don't hold me to that), and I'll end the fun by posting photos from the three collections I visited, Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies. Until next year!!! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: NADA and SEVEN

Today I'm wrapping up the art fairs with one final post including NADA and Seven. These are the last two fairs that I had a chance to visit while in Miami last week (still recovering, by the way). I wish I had more time and more feet, because I would have attempted more! That doesn't mean that this is the end of my adventures while there. Tomorrow I'll be ending the photo-extraveganza with pictures from the Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies collections. So don't go away yet! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: Art Miami / Context and Untitled

I made it to Art Miami and Art Context on opening night. It was jammed...There was a lot of talk about the Banksy pieces which were apparently taken from "the streets" of the Middle East and brought here for exhibit and sale. However you feel about the removal and placement, I think most people will agree that the pieces didn't seem to play well in this context. And, for Banksy, isn't context what it's all about? But I digress...

Miami Highlights: Miami Project and Pulse

Today let's tackle Pulse and Miami Project. The latter of which is a brand new fair located in Wynwood. It sported an impressive roster and a nice tent, I might add. But I'll let the photographs speak for themselves. Tomorrow, Art Miami/Context and Untitled (yet another new fair). - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: Basel and Aqua

I'm back from a crazy week in Miami and I have too many pictures for just one post...Or two or three for that matter. I figure the best way to tackle this is to post highlights from different fairs and collections each day of this week. To kick things off I thought it would be fun to start with two extremes, Basel and Aqua (the latter of which was voted by our readers as "The Best Miami Fair for Emerging Art" and recently purchased by Art Miami LLC).
