The Wonderful World of Melissa Manfull

Melissa Manfull’s (NAP #85) solo show Schemata at Taylor De Cordoba is a really great visual embodiment of the artistic process, as it tangibly shows Manfull’s growth and expanding mastery of mediums.  Since her first pieces were shown at Taylor De Cordoba in a group show in 2007, her work has changed in subject and color, though not in the detailed, inquisitive nature of her drawings psychological musings. - Ellen C. Simone Shubuck at Taylor De Cordoba

Simone Shubuck’s solo exhibit Do You Like Old Things or New Things That Look Old? at Taylor De Cordoba is forward and refreshing.  Deep coral hues, paint splotches, doodles, feathers, and detailed sketches of chrysanthemum-like shapes comprise her colorful paintings, at times seeming to mimic bouquets and at others, taking on anthropomorphic,

Jen Pack’s UnQuiet Chromo at Taylor De Cordoba

Jen Pack’s (NAP #73) UnQuiet Chromo at Taylor De Cordoba is something of an artistic oxymoron—in the best way possible.  Her works are both loud and quiet.  Soft and hard.  Strong and delicate. Opaque and solid.  Something about her stretched chiffon patchwork defies many of the qualities that the pieces also envelop and embody.

Crafting & Curating: “Recrafting History” at Taylor De Cordoba

I was recently asked to curate a show for Taylor De Cordoba, a gallery in LA's Culver City art district. Fact, Fiction, and Friction: Frohawk Two Feathers

During a time when fiction dances eerily with fact, it feels appropriate to look to a contemporary artist from my generation who is using acrylics, tea-dyed paper, and a variety of mediums to blur, illuminate, disguise, and play with these lines.  I first saw Frohawk Two Feathers’ (NAP #73) work at Taylor De Cordoba in 2006 and have followed him and his empire literally through many gallery and museum openings, and figuratively through 100’s of years, numerous battles, wars, and revolutions.  Lives have been lost, prisoners have been taken, but Frohawk always comes out on top.
