There is something appealing to me about the shifts between
and interpenetrations of towns, architecture, rivers, and forests
you see along a route. You can almost read the history of an area
in its landscape. Manmade forms whittle, sculpt, and shape the
landscape, and these carvings can give an account of a region.
Although my work is often focused on modern ruins and forgotten
spaces, I am becoming increasingly interested in how a building’s
environment changes in response to the social or cultural value
ascribed to the structure, or vice versa. I am concerned with
how to integrate, expose, and depict modern standards of worth
through landscape.
