My paintings are about bodies—bodies in purgatory, in solitude, interacting with other bodies, in pleasure, in awkwardness, in labor. I’m interested in how we curate our bodies to interact with the world in certain ways, whether it be in the choice of a specific item of clothing or in the treatment of body hair. I intend to lead the viewer through a process of seeing a portrait not through facial rendering but instead by an analysis of the subject’s action, situation, or aesthetic.
