I am interested in the objecthood of what we consider images, my work using woven structures as a site for conflict between image and material, surface and depth.

My paintings are connected to textile craft traditions through the materials I use (fabric, dye, bleach, thread) and processes I employ (tie-dye, shibori, machine sewing, zigzag stitches), yet they focus on painterly interrogations of space, color, and perception. I treat my paintings like sculptures, or at least like garments of clothing with stretcher bars as mannequins.

I am working towards iterations of abstract painting that represent a unity of form and content. I want my current processes to yield wonky and handmade, but immaculate objects indivisible from their material form and dimensions and confounding to a cycloptic camera. Yet, I aim, too, for results that are familiar and inviting if still uncanny to in-person eyes.
