Michael F. Kondel
I work with the mechanics of an image. My trade as a fine art
printer has enhanced my ability to see in color separations
and layers of graphic shape. I resource a blue-collar world and
reconstruct motifs that speak of that culture and contribute to
the autobiographical lineage of my works. Bringing a printmaking
approach to my paintings, I initially engage with a symbol
or image in a process that changes into an assessment and
deconstruction of its individual parts. I end with a perspective that
shows the graphic importance of these individual shapes and the
significance of the mechanically printed image.
