In my work, the medium of paint is not only a means to depict subject matter, but a subject in itself. I use mediated images from digital and print technologies as sources to appropriate, altering and eradicating representational forms in a process of reverse anthropomorphism. The illusion of space that I create using conventional oil painting techniques is disrupted by gestural and mechanically aided mark making that calls attention to the flatness of the canvas, altering the status of a two-dimensional image to that of a painted object that exists in three-dimensional space. This series of work demonstrates a particular point within an ongoing inquiry into the formal components of painting and its sculptural and technological considerations.
