Jon Farber
My work is rooted in intuition, repetition, and the quiet act of mark-making. Through automatic drawing and abstraction, I explore the space between awareness and instinct, where thoughts fade and movement takes over. I begin without a plan, allowing each line to lead me to the next, like a wandering conversation or a half-remembered dream.
As a nurse, much of my life has been spent in service to others, and that sensitivity carries into my creative process. I see painting as a form of listening—listening to my hand, the moment, and what’s beneath the surface. The shapes that emerge often feel like maps or internal landscapes.
My work is about letting go of control long enough to see what rises. In a world that values precision and pragmatism, my practice leans into uncertainty, making space for pause, for silence, for imperfection, and for whatever else wants to come through.
