This body of work explores the space of tension between
opposing forces. Inorganic mediums form organic shapes that
accept a certain amount of guidance, but have the potential for
independent action. Expressing a language of excess, the shapes
are both attractive and repulsive: something that was once good
has become too much.
I relate many of the textures and colors of the work to elements
of the body and its needs, such as skin and food. Creating a
humorous interaction of concealing and revealing, I convey the
idea of covering up “imperfections,” as we do to ourselves. I
embrace an intuitive process that relies on play, experimentation,
and a balance between control and flexibility.
