My work expresses a love of systems and a catalog of feelings. I am in the continual process of observing, analyzing and releasing information. In my paintings, I use the rectangle as the containment format into which I place carefully selected colors. I am creating “windows” of rectangles that overlap asymmetrically, inspired by the overlapping leaves on a tree that move in a breeze when I stare out my window.
I use high surface paint, heated oil in wax applied in many layers then scraped and buffed, juxtaposed with flat, acrylic or oil-painted areas. These relationships are carefully considered to create a composition in balance. It has been written of my work that the paintings are not Minimalist, but rather packed with meaning for each respective viewer.
