Zoë Stiler
Region: West
Zoë Stiler is a multimedia artist who lives and works in an off-grid home built with her own hands on the High Desert Mesa. She comes from a family of artists and is primarily self-taught. Though she has rarely shown her work, she has maintained an active studio practice throughout her life.
Stiler’s work explores narratives discovered through experiences and revealed through dreams. Her works depict lessons observed from the natural world, communications with spirit, and the mythic journeys of supernatural beings—all of which she sees as revelations of personal and collective truths.
Stiler paints and draws in a limited palette, using acrylic, pencil, charcoal, ink, oil and wax crayon, enamel spray paint, and anything else on hand. Her two-dimensional works often evolve into books or concepts for theatrical productions. Influenced by the elements, light, and movement of the landscape she lives in concert with, Stiler also creates kinetic and illuminated sculptural works that incorporate sewing, weaving, botanical pressing, and micaceous clay building.
