Forms of a female body and domestic objects like a ceramic vase first emerge from the wallpaper, giving structure to my paintings. These forms also serve as a microcosm of the universes as the miniature female figures populate the pattern on the wall and engage in different settings.
To me, this is akin to excavating inner worlds, making the wallpaper a psychological terrain for journeying through varied emotions and lived experiences. I use materiality to explore themes of female agency and the body in entangled relationships with nature, constructing mythologies that counter society’s hierarchies and intervening in and occupying these patterns by layering them with figures and symbolic environments. Making these paintings becomes an act of self-reclamation, where I commemorate and map the pathways created for healing and transformation.
