I have been exploring the collective aesthetic of the urban landscape for several years now. The idea that individuals and communities are connected, literally and abstractly, by common fixtures and sights is a driving force behind my work. My paintings separate and celebrate the blights on the vista, and emphasize the unappreciated flaws of our everyday view. Metal and found objects are my surfaces of choice. Working on them makes my individual paintings act as parts of a larger whole, freeing my work from the standard borders of canvas and frame.

This series of portraits depicts all of the telephone poles on my street. Together they are simply utility poles, functioning and supporting the lines running through them until they are no longer needed. It is only when they are treated individually that we can see each unique history and character.
