Artist Statement

Desireé Vaniecia is an artist who creates bold and striking works that explore the complexities of the human experience. Her deeply personal pieces draw inspiration from her life and emotions; they aim to evoke movement and energy, inviting viewers to engage on a deeper level.

Her art hints at Art Nouveau and the Renaissance era, reimagined through a contemporary lens. She focuses on the representation of Black women in art throughout history using mixed-media, creating a visual language that speaks to the complexities of Black femininity. Her art encourages viewers to consider the complexities and nuances of Black femininity and to look beyond surface representations.
