Miami Highlights: Art Miami / Context and Untitled

I made it to Art Miami and Art Context on opening night. It was jammed...There was a lot of talk about the Banksy pieces which were apparently taken from "the streets" of the Middle East and brought here for exhibit and sale. However you feel about the removal and placement, I think most people will agree that the pieces didn't seem to play well in this context. And, for Banksy, isn't context what it's all about? But I digress...

Miami Highlights: Miami Project and Pulse

Today let's tackle Pulse and Miami Project. The latter of which is a brand new fair located in Wynwood. It sported an impressive roster and a nice tent, I might add. But I'll let the photographs speak for themselves. Tomorrow, Art Miami/Context and Untitled (yet another new fair). - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: Basel and Aqua

I'm back from a crazy week in Miami and I have too many pictures for just one post...Or two or three for that matter. I figure the best way to tackle this is to post highlights from different fairs and collections each day of this week. To kick things off I thought it would be fun to start with two extremes, Basel and Aqua (the latter of which was voted by our readers as "The Best Miami Fair for Emerging Art" and recently purchased by Art Miami LLC).

New American Paintings Past Featured Artists In Miami

Visiting the art fairs throughout the year is exciting because we see so many familiar names. A majority of artists that have appeared in New American Paintings have gone on to have extremely successful careers. One barometer of success is making an appearance at one of the fairs in Miami. We already mentioned our favorite fairs, well now we have compiled a list of artists that have been in our publication and will appear in a Miami art fair this year. It's overwhelming to be reminded of how many amazing artists that we have worked with in the past. We hope you take note and look for their work.

New American Paintings Guide To Miami 2012

It's hard to believe it’s that time of year again...In one week we are headed to Miami for Art Basel and other shenanigans. Another year, another list! We’ve put this post together to highlight some of our favorite fairs to check out while in Miami, if you are fortunate enough to make it. We are especially looking forward to UNTITLED and MIAMI PROJECT, two newcomers to the Miami scene that we hope can make an impact on the annual art-a-thon.

What Is The Best Miami Fair For Emerging Art (POLL)

In a little over a month people will be flocking to Miami to visit countless art fairs. Everyone has their favorites, based on a countless number of criteria. New American Paintings prides itself on helping expose the work of hundreds of new emerging artists each year. We continue to serve as a publication that allows its readers to discover new artistic talent in each issue. Not surprisingly, we feel a good art fair should also be a place where art-lovers can have that same sense of discovery.

Emerging Again: D.C.’s (e)merge Goes Into Its Second Year

Last year’s preview night at (e)merge was a big, ruckus party. Amidst the large crowds it was often difficult to navigate the hallways between exhibitors, and the wait for the elevators always seemed impossibly long. While it may have been loads of fun for those of us sipping PBRs by the pool, perusing and buying artwork that evening seemed to require a bit more resolve and determination.

Expo Chicago Wrap-Up: Part One

New American Paintings headed to the Windy City over the weekend to check out Expo Chicago, which was, in effect, an attempted reboot of Art Chicago in its glory days. Art Chicago was the first art fair that NAP publisher/editor, Steven Zevitas, ever attended. That was 17 years ago...

Expo Chicago Wrap-Up: Part Two

“There’s going to be an EXPO Chicago next year, right?” Chicago dealer Linda Warren asked Tony Karman Sunday at Festival Hall, voicing the concern that all of us are harboring. We were discussing how the fair was unfolding, Karman mentioning that he wished more collectors from the greater Midwest region would have come out and talking about the holes he’d like to fill in the future.

We just found out that one of our favorite fairs is moving to SOHO! From the Volta Show NY press release:

"VOLTA NY, taking place from Thursday, March 7, through Sunday, March 10, is thrilled to announce its NEW LOCATION for 2013: 82MERCER in SoHo, New York.

The Mercer Street building's 50,000 square foot exhibition space, comprising two floors and daylight loft-like spaces, is nestled in a groovy corner of SoHo and will provide a handsome platform for VOLTA NY's strictly solo-project format, including a broad international roster as well as plenty of local representation."
