History of The Open Studios Press The Open Studios Press was founded in 1993 as a vehicle for facilitating contact between artists and art enthusiasts. To date, our critically acclaimed periodical, New American Paintings, has featured the work of over 3,000 painters from throughout the United States. The publication benefits artists and viewers alike. While included painters receive international exposure, those with an interest in contemporary painting are provided with an invaluable resource for discovering new artistic talent.

New American Paintings is a juried exhibition-in-print. Each edition results from a regionally focused, juried competition and presents the work of roughly 40 painters. Thousands of artists enter our competitions every year, but only a limited number make it through the rigorous jurying process. We work closely with renowned curators, such as Lisa Phillips of the New Museum of Contemporary Art and Charlotta Kotik of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, in order to select those artists whose work deserves to be seen by a wider audience. From post-modern pastiche to the landscape, from recognized artists to recent M.F.A. graduates, New American Paintings does not discriminate against style or yield to art world trends.

Through New American Paintings, The Open Studios Press has become a bridge between the creators and consumers of fine art. Prompted by the publication's success, we have dedicated our resources to projects that will allow us to further our mission. One of these projects, Open Studios Catalogs, now offers affordable, high-quality catalog design and production services to artists, galleries, and museums throughout the country.
