We are pleased to present the winners of our first nationally–focused competition for students enrolled in Master of Fine Arts programs. Entries to this competition far exceeded our initial expectations. Although the exhibition was originally to be a book that would feature 25 artists, it soon became clear that we had enough material for a much larger project. We therefore expanded the intended edition, New American Paintings: The M.F.A. Annual 2000, to accommodate a series of editor’s choices, and created space for additional artists in a virtual exhibition. This exhibition is presented in two parts. The first section presents the 37 artists featured in New American Paintings: The M.F.A. Annual 2000, each of whom is represented on-line by a single image (additional images and information are available in the printed edition of The M.F.A. Annual). The exhibition’s second section features images, biographical information, artist’s statements and contact information for an additional 36 artists of exceptional promise.
